These competencies include, but are not limited to:Basic neuroscience that is critical to the practice of neurologyPathophysiology and treatment of major psychiatric and neurologic disorders and familiarity with the scientific basis of neurologyNeurologic disorders and diseases across the lifespanPsychiatric disorders and diseases across the lifespanPatient evaluation and treatment selectionEmployment of principles of quality improvement in practiceThe goals of this program are to improve the acute and prophylactic treatment of migraines, and to validate the use of statins in patients at risk for stroke and those recovering from cerebral ischemia. After hearing and assimilating this program, the clinician will be better able to:1: Prescribe acute treatments capable of rapidly eliminating symptoms of migraines.2: Prevent headache symptoms related to the overuse of acute treatments for migraines.3: Reduce the number of headache days and the degree of headache severity experienced by patients with migraines through the use of prophylactic therapies.4: Identify patients likely to show a reduced risk for stroke when treated with statins.5: Improve outcomes in patients with myocardial infarction, ischemia, and cerebral hemorrhage through the use of statins.
